Croustade aux Pommes

Apple Crumble

To celebrate the flavors of fall with a classic and comforting touch, I offer you a delicious recipe for Apple Crisp , perfect for warming up your fall evenings.

Apple Crumble

Ingredients:

  • For the apple filling:

    • 6 medium apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
    • 50 g brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • For the crispiness:

    • 100 g of oat flakes
    • 100 g all-purpose flour
    • 100 g brown sugar
    • 100 g cold butter, diced
    • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    • Turn your oven on to 350°F (180°C) to preheat while you prepare the other components. This step ensures that your oven will reach the perfect temperature for even cooking of your crumble.
  2. Prepare the Apple Filling:

    • In a large bowl, toss the apple slices with the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Make sure the spices coat each slice well to maximize the flavor in every bite.
    • Spread this mixture evenly in a baking dish, ideally ceramic for better heat distribution.
  3. Assemble the Crispy:

    • In a separate bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, and salt. Add the butter and, using your fingertips, work the mixture until it becomes crumbly. This texture is what gives it that crunchy texture you love.
  4. Cook the Crumble:

    • Spread the crisp mixture over the prepared apples. Don't pack the tops too tightly to allow steam to escape, which will help the apples to be tender.
    • Place in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes. You'll know it's done when the top is golden brown and the apple juices start bubbling happily around the sides.
  5. Serve:

    • Serve your crumble warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that gently melts on top, adding a creamy touch to the warm dessert.
