Pouding Chômeur au Sirop d'Érable

Maple Syrup Unemployed Pudding

Ingredients:

  • For the cake:

    • 250 g all-purpose flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 pinch of salt
    • 125 g softened butter
    • 150 g sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 125 ml of milk
  • For the syrup:

    • 250 ml of pure maple syrup
    • 250 ml of 35% cream
    • 125 ml of water
    • 50 g butter

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Syrup:

    • In a saucepan, combine maple syrup, cream, water and butter. Heat over medium heat until butter is melted and mixture begins to simmer. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Cake Dough:

    • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Butter a baking dish of approximately 20 cm x 20 cm.
    • In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt.
    • In another bowl, beat the butter and sugar until creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    • Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  3. Assemble and Cook:

    • Pour the cake batter into the prepared dish and smooth the surface.
    • Slowly pour the hot syrup over the dough. Do not mix.
    • Bake for about 40 minutes, or until the cake is golden brown and the syrup is bubbling around it.
  4. Serve:

    • Serve warm, straight from the dish, with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra touch.
