Apple Pie with Maple Syrup
Ingredients:
-
For the dough:
- 250 g all-purpose flour
- 125 g cold butter, diced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3-4 tablespoons cold water
-
For the filling:
- 4-5 medium apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
- 100 ml of pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
-
For gilding:
- 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon of water
Instructions:
-
Preparation of the dough:
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the butter and work the mixture with your fingertips until it has a sandy texture.
- Add the water, one spoonful at a time, mixing just until the dough begins to come together. Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and let rest in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
-
Preparation of the filling:
- In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with the maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg and flour until the apples are well coated.
-
Assemble the pie:
- Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).
- Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and line a 9-inch (23 cm) tart pan with some of the dough.
- Pour the apple filling into the tart shell and sprinkle small cubes of butter on top.
- Cover with the remaining dough, seal the edges and make incisions in the center to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the surface of the tart with the beaten egg to obtain a nice golden color.
-
Cooking:
- Bake for about 50 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender.
-
Serve:
- Let the pie cool on a rack before serving. This pie is delicious both hot and cold, accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream or simply a drizzle of maple syrup to enhance this sweet flavor.
